Welcome to Year Four Avocets Class!
Avocets is one of the Year 4 classes that is taught by Miss Hallows and supported by ???.
In our class, we work together as a team to be our best selves and uphold the whole school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. We work hard to build on skills from year 3 and will focus a lot on learning our times tables. We will always attempt to complete our learning, even when it becomes challenging. We will endeavour to support each other and use kindness both inside and outside our classroom.
During the first two we will focus on PSHE, using the book ‘The Dot’. We will develop our understanding of emotions, discuss behaviour expectations and classroom expectations, and learn about our new team.
After this, our history and geography lessons (now known as topic) will be:
-
Autumn Term – The Tudors – with a visit to Gainsborough Old Hall.
-
Spring Term – Spain – Including a flamenco dancing workshop.
-
Summer Term – The Egyptians – With a trip to Weston Park Museum.
We want to promote love of reading at our school, as it is essential to develop vocabulary and imagination. The children are encouraged to read as much as possible during the week, including at home. We will share a range of novels in class during reading practice, story time, and periods where children can read for pleasure.
Our first class texts will be ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ which is an amazing story and one of my favourites!
Our PE days will be on Monday (indoor) and Wednesday (outdoor). Please support your child by providing a suitable PE kit to get changed into on both days (I would suggest bringing it on Monday and collecting it for washing on Fridays). Children will also need to bring a water bottle to school every day. The whole of Year 4 will also be undertaking swimming lessons as part of our statutory PE lessons, but we will provide more details of this closer to the time.
In Avocets, we believe that home and school should collaborate to support our children, so we will regularly share our learning on Class Dojo. I would also love to see your child’s achievements from home! Our classroom is one where we have fun, where every child’s work is valued, all ideas and opinions are encouraged, and each child is given the tools and support to work at their own level. We hope you will join us in encouraging your child to work hard and take pride in their work.
If you have any questions or need to get in contact please message me on ClassDojo.
