Welcome to Kingfishers Class!

​

 

Kingfisher class is the Foundation Stage 2 (Reception) class taught by Miss Abigail Smith and supported by Mrs Karen King and Mrs Emma Jones-South. It is the first year in a child’s school education.

​

 

Our classroom is a warm, welcoming, and friendly place to learning and achieve. We focus on the 3R’s in our classroom and throughout school - Respectful, Responsible and Resilient.

 

Our aim is to explore the world around us, learning from past experiences and creating new ones. We encourage the children to ask questions and have hands on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Vocabulary is a key role in our learning and we immerse our environment and learning with this. Retrieval practice in all areas is key also.

 

Throughout the school year we focus our learning on many topics linked to achieving the Development Matters Goals.

First two weeks – Understanding emotions, behaviour expectations, classroom expectations, accepting differences.

​

• Autumn Term – All about me, Me in my world

• Spring Term – People who help us, Healthy lifestyles

• Summer Term – Ready, steady, grow, Camouflage

​

 

We have a love of reading at our school. The children are encouraged to listen to stories, tell stories within the role-play and small world areas and also start to enjoy books by themselves. This includes at home too. Children are asked to bring a book bag to school so they can take home a reading for pleasure book and a phonics book. This is changed every Friday.

We will be enjoying a range of picture books in class during story time as well as allowing the children time throughout the school day to read for pleasure.

Our PE day is Friday. Children must bring a suitable PE kit to get changed into. Please can all items be labelled. They will also need to bring a water bottle to school every day.

We believe hard work and resilience will ensure that every child achieves the best of their ability. Our classroom is one where every child’s work is valued, all ideas and opinions are encouraged, and the children are given the tools and support to work at their own level. Most importantly, we want children to enjoy their time in school and build special memories. We hope you will join us in encouraging your child to work hard and take pride in their work.
